I Found a New Lazy Way to Make Money Online (A Simple Method Few People Talk About)

I am lazy.

Ideally, I don’t want to work much and have money coming in on autopilot.

But we all know, no pain, no gain. So I can’t stop working completely, but if there is a way I can make money without taking up a lot of my time and energy, I’m up for it.

As I wind down my handmade business, I’m relying on my side hustles to make some money while I travel and navigate the new chapter of my life in a new country.

Currently, I focus on:

  1. Writing
  2. Selling on Etsy

I love writing and creating products to sell on Etsy. They don’t feel like “work,” but they do take up time.

My brain started to search for a solution—how can I leverage what I have to make more with less time?

And I found one.

This little gem not many talked about

I don’t blame you if you haven’t heard of it. Or if you’ve heard of it but didn’t pay much attention.

I was in the crafty, creative world in the last 3 years, but I’ve only noticed the potential a few weeks ago.

I’m talking about this platform called Creative Fabrica (CF).

I heard of it when I first started my handmade store on Etsy.

Then I explored it again last year when I started my printable store.

It’s a similar platform to Creative Market, where you can find graphics, fonts, and elements to spice up your product design. Since I wasn’t a designer, I just took the platform as it is—a marketplace for cute graphics.

I have Canva already; why do I bother?

Oh boy, was I wrong.

As I dug deeper into Creative Fabrica, I found that not only is it a platform where you can find resources for your own design needs, but you can also sell your products even though you are not an artist or designer.

I don’t draw and have never been to a design school.

But I’ve always loved DIY. I've since turned these into digital patterns to sell in my Etsy store and made over $8,000.

The lightbulb moment started when I saw other people selling patterns on Creative Fabrica.

If they can, why can’t I?

How to make money?

I proceed to search on how to make money from Creative Fabrica.

Before talking about how you can sell on Creative Fabrica, let’s understand how this platform works.

Creative Fabrica is a subscription-based site.

When you subscribe to their all-asset plan (now on special at $4.99/month, cancel anytime), you can download any graphics, fonts, patterns, etc., to help you create your product.

Say you want to start a Print On Demand (POD) business but don’t know how to design. You can hop on to Creative Fabrica and browse through an extensive library of graphics you can download for free (assuming you pay the subscription fee), tweak, and make it your design to print on your POD product.

You can also use their free tool (including AI) to help you create your own fonts or graphics.

If you are like me, more inclined to handmade, you can download DIY patterns to make products and sell.

Or getting stuck not knowing what to create? You can take some classes. All free is included in your subscription.

I was surprised by all these classes available on Creative Fabrica

Pretty resourceful, huh?

Now let’s flip the role.

If you can buy or download these resources, there is a creator behind them.

Did they all come from one creator? The answer is obviously a no. They came from a collective of designers/sellers, however you like to call it.

So I did some research to see how you can be the seller instead of the buyer.

There are a few ways:

  1. List your item and set your price as you sell on another platform. When anyone purchases from you, you get a sale.
  2. As Creative Fabrica operates under a subscription model, every time someone downloads your product, you get paid a royalty commission.
  3. Through affiliates. Each seller has a designer page on which they can recommend other products. If a buyer clicks and downloads the product from your referral page, you will also get a commission.

What I love about it is that you don’t need to do any marketing yourself and don’t pay extra for marketing spend.

I think of selling on Creative Fabrica as writing on Medium.

You write an article (create a product), publish on Medium (list your product), and get paid for read time (when people download your product).

It may be worth only a penny at the start. But as you continue to upload more designs and build up your product list, you can start making recurring income.

This is music to my ears, as I’ve been selling printables in my Etsy store.

I can easily “repurpose” my products and list them on Creative Fabrica to earn a commission.

Even if you don’t have an Etsy store or are not a crafty creator, you can still become a seller on Creative Fabrica.

You can create designs for people who self-publish ebooks or sell via Amazon KDP, for example.

No commission, no upfront cost, nothing. You don’t even need to become a CF member.

I can’t believe it has taken me so long to discover this.

My experiment so far

It’s free to open a store on Creative Fabrica, and there is no listing fee.

However, there is an application process, and it can take up to a week to hear back.

While you can’t just open a store like you do on Etsy, I quite like this process, as they validate the sellers to make sure they are not some factories out in the middle of nowhere stealing all the artwork and reselling it.

In fact, I got mine within 2 days over the Easter break. That was impressive.

As a new seller, I’m also very pleased with their customer service, which, unfortunately, Etsy lacks.

The live chat is supported by AI, but I was stunned by the quality of this 'bot.'

For example, one of the questions I asked was, "How does payment work after I move to Australia?" Will I need to reopen a new store?

I expected an answer with a list of resource links to the “open a store” keyword or “we are just a bot and will connect you to our agent." Instead, they addressed my question like I was talking to a human being and quicker than a human responding.

My verdict

I’m really excited about this opportunity to repurpose my listings and earn a commission.

I know it takes time and effort if you need to make big bucks, but at this stage, I only wanted to make use of what I have and expand my sales channel.

Creative Fabrica allows me to do this in a lazy way.
